Mat Monkeys

Children Ages 4 - 9
Monday – Thursday 5:00 pm - 5:45 pm

Our children’s Martial Art classes are ideal for helping children develop Confidence, Focus, and Discipline. They are also a terrific and fun way to help your child improve his or her Physical Fitness. These classes are very high energy and the kids rarely sit still for long!

Our program is built around the art of Judo which teaches many effective throwing and ground grappling techniques. We also include work on basic punching and kicking and spend time working on various self-defense scenarios to better prepare our students if they need to defend themselves. Our program is very well-rounded and is not based on competition.

Fighting Fit Kickboxing

Teens and Adults
Monday/Wednesday, 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

This is not your typical fitness Kickboxing class. This is the same introduction to the Art and Science of Kickboxing that Coach Decker taught at Phoenix College for almost two decades. In addition to getting in the best “Fighting Fit” shape of your life, students will learn:

  • Proper stance and footwork
  • The “Basic Ten” (technique)
  • How to manage distance for maximum efficiency

All skill levels are welcome in this Beginners’ class! We do not spar in this class. Students will condition, shadowbox and hit pads with trainers. Students do NOT need to “know how to take a punch.” We will, however, have a lot of fun!

Freestyle Judo®

Jr. Judo Children Ages 10 to 15
Monday/Wednesday, 6:00 pm - 6:50 pm

Beginner Judo Teens and Adults Ages 16+
Tuesday/Thursday, 6:00 pm – 6:50 pm

Strictly speaking there is no other Judo than Kodokan Judo of Sensei Jigoro Kano and that is the curriculum at Coach Decker’s Academy. Freestyle Judo is an approach to “shiai” (contest rules) developed by Sensei Steve Scott that we believe is more developmental and inclusive than other contest rules, so that is our approach as well. Freestyle can also mean a state of mind where we try to be free of preconceived dogmas and open to Judo as an evolutionary, lifetime study; the goal being self-improvement.

Self Defense 101

Tuesday/Thursday, 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Practice is based on real-life experiences and endurance enhanced drills. Develops self-confidence and a basic practical plan of self-defense.
